In his book, Effectual Prayer, Frances W. Foulks says, “We usually turn to God because of some need that we realize no human being can satisfy, and then truly our extremity becomes God’s opportunity.”
What kind of usual is that?
What if it didn’t take a need or an extremity for us to turn to God?
I mean, extremities are extremities and, sure, events in our lives sometimes happen very suddenly, but is that your usual time to remember that God’s available 24-7 within you and every situation? Extremity means – outermost or utmost degree, grave danger, necessity, extreme or severe measure. Would anything like that be an opportunity for God? You bet! Thank Godness…
And, if this old “I only connect with God when push comes to shove” belief rules our lives then we might want to notice that we’re frittering away a lot of fabulous opportunities to be totally plugged in to the highest knowing that’s always available to us. I’m not so interested in “when push comes to shove,” are you? The truth is that life isn’t a this OR that proposition.
The disciple Paul instructs us to “pray without ceasing.” That’s fascinating, isn’t it? Surely Paul isn’t suggesting that we sit in full lotus and stare at our proverbial navels, is he?
I look forward to being with you this Sunday, June 6th at Unity of Divine Love as we consider what in heaven’s name we’re to do to BE all that we’ve been created to Be. As Rev Kyra said in last week’s midweek message to you, “Prayer becomes a fabulous experience of God rather than a seeking to receive a blessing. No beseeching, negotiating, or begging required!” Let’s let our thoughts soar with one another in community…
Prayer: (Let this be said as if it’s the Divine Voice within you)
With God as my Source, I dwell in the midst of infinite abundance.
The river of life never stops flowing through me and out into my world.
I give thanks, with love and gratitude, for the good that is coming to me through wonderful, unexpected avenues blessing me and my world in myriad ways.
I give, freely and faithfully, into life and life gives back to me with fabulous increase.
Thank You blessed Spirit! Amen, Ahwomen Ahchildren, all One.
